Codes of Practice and Ethics

Information about the codes for care professionals, practice guidance for registered care professionals and what you, if you are receiving care and support, should expect from social care workers.

What are the Codes?

To make sure registered care professionals deliver "care your way", we have Codes of Professional Practice and Ethics which registered care professionals have given their commitment to follow and make sure they provide care and support to the highest standards.

The Codes are a set of values and standards, care professionals should work to, to help keep you safe and well.

What the Codes say

To provide you with the best care and support or "care your way", social care workers must:

  • help you say and achieve what is important to you
  • respect your dignity, privacy, preferences, culture, language, rights, beliefs, views and wishes
  • support you to stay safe
  • be honest, trustworthy and reliable
  • be appropriately qualified to do their job properly.

Who must keep to the Code?

All social care professionals should follow the Code even if they are not currently expected to register.

Social care professionals who are registered, are asked to follow the Code to remain on the voluntary register.
